Community-bump and new member joining?
by floppybelly ([info]floppybelly)
at July 26th, 2010 (11:04 am)

So, I kinda posted this already in a reply to a previous post, but then I was thinking about it... And realized that not many people would see that! So here's one that hopefully will show up.
I recently re-discovered this community out of the fondness for the House/Tail!Wilson fic that I remembered reading a few years ago, and have just gone and read through the rules and meta and all that good stuff. What-all do I have to do to join? Additionally, here are a few ideas I've had stewing in my head, any feedback would be much appreciated!

Darnell Turner, from "My Name is Earl" : Teleporter (Is that possible?)
Kenny James, from "My Name is Earl" : Structural, has small wings (Level 1)
Temperance Brennan, from "Bones" : Inanimate Empath ("talks" to objects)
Jack Hodgins, from "Bones" : Fast-twitch muscle movements enhanced (Can vibrate, high acclimation)
Helen Girardi, from "Joan of Arcadia" : Accelerated healing (Level 4, can heal others)
Joan Girardi, from "Joan of Arcadia" : Is visited by God (Hah, how would that translate into a power? It's really the only supernatural element of the show, and barely one at that!)
Paul McCartney, from the Beatles: Age-decelerated (aging process slows to a crawl when Started)
Alice Cooper: Ultra-accuracy (Like Bullseye, from Daredevil? Could be a super-sensory thing perhaps.)

The Alice Cooper bit came from a memory I had where he likes to play golf in his spare time! I don't actually know the dude all that well, so maybe it doesn't really fit him. I don't know. But it got me wondering, how would powers be handled in the world of sports? Would they have their own teams? Would they be allowed onto other teams? Maybe only those whose power doesn't grant them an advantage related to the sport? Could they be allowed, just as long as they don't use their power? Would they just not be allowed to participate at all?
Sports have a funny way of including groups who have a perceived difference in playing ability. Like women. Even if the difference is not actually existent. I'm also reminded of steroid use, and how that could be likened to powers.

Title: Taking in the Sights
Author: Hannah R. Orlove
Fandom: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang/Jackass RPF
Pairing: Perry Von Shrike/Johnny Knoxville
Rating: NC-17
Notes: Takes place in the universe of [info]powergeneration. Thanks to [info]lasergirl for a short look-over. Title comes from the Barenaked Ladies song “Hello City.”

When Perry wants to drink, he doesn’t have to go anywhere; he’s got what he likes at home for when he wants to add some alcohol to his system. But when he wants to go out, he goes to one of two places.

Title: Wrap My Harms
Author: Hannah Orlove
Fandom: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Pairing: None
Rating: PG-13
Notes: Set after the movie, in the universe of [info]powergeneration. Follows this story. Title comes from the song “Broken” by Robert Downey, Jr.

Perry had started watching Harry carefully as soon as he had met him – there was a very particular quality to his nervousness, his endless small, jerking movements that made him look like he was made of broken clockwork.

In honour of [info]hannahrorlove's birthing day, I present a small ficlet. I asked what she wanted, and she gave me the option of writing more about PG's version of bandom. For the record, this is Greta, who sings in a band called The Hush Sound. All the lyrics used are from their new song "Medicine Man."

Happy Birthday, Hannah. Hope you like it!

You rock. Didn't that feel good? Why don't you go back and try another?

Welcome to the Third Annual "we kinda were planning to have a ficathon" Power Generation Ficlet Challenge! Here's how to play, as so effectively laid out by [info]lasergirl:

1. Comment to this post with a prompt, a request for a specific fandom, or both. I'd like to keep this prompting to a simple level. Keep your prompts short, a situation or a word, a song (YSI links are always welcome!), a photo, etc.

2. Read through the prompts and claim your prompt, fandom, or both.

2b. Try not to claim your own prompts. Unless you really really want to, in which case you have to write me something special and give me candy. Bwahaha!

3. When you claim one, post another prompt to keep the ball rolling.

4. Write early, write often, and write if you haven't posted anything to this community before! As a mod, I'd really like to see a lot of the newer, quiet people playing along in this challenge as we haven't heard a lot from them, and it's nice to have more people playing!

5. Keep it fast and loose. This isn't about crafting the perfect story, it's about flinging stuff around joyfully and enjoying the energy.

6. Post all completed stories to the 'Finished Ficathon' header post, in this format:

(in subject header)
FIC: Title
(in reply box)
Fandom: Name
Prompt: prompt from *username*
And then post your ficlet.

7. Ficlets can be any length, but try to stay above a few hundred words to really give the readers somethign they can sink their fangs teeth into.

8. Ready? Steady? Read the next bit and then you can GO!

By the way, EVERYONE SHOULD PLAY. No one here is the least bit territorial about 'their' fandoms, and if you want to jump into someone else's pool and play with the toys, feel free!! We want everyont to feel like they're part of a community. Similarly, if you have a fandom that's been poking around your head for a while, but haven't written anything with it, now is the time to bust it out!!!

Winter Holiday Ficletathon?
by Lasergirl ([info]lasergirl)
at December 16th, 2007 (12:21 am)

I know we did this last year, and it worked fabulously. Is anyone up for another 'post-a-prompt/claim-a-promt' ficlet-a-thon this year? In less than a week I will have a little more time, and I haven't PGverse for so long that I really feel I have to before I forget everything.

Who's up for it?

Fanfic Challenge! Now with more secrecy!
by the queen of whatever ([info]akire_yta)
at August 9th, 2007 (06:10 pm)

It's time for the 'Suddenly Biannual PG Challenge'! Here's how to play.

1) Go below the cut
2) Wait for the PostSecret postcards to load
3) Pick one
4) Write a fic based on it/inspired by it
5) Post fic and postcard.
6) Lather, rinse, repeat. As with all our challenges, the focus isn't on the "perfect" story - it's about letting the creative juices flow fast and free.

To help:
The Reference Section and the Who's Who (if you need to add a character, do so there)

And as with all our challenges: EVERYONE SHOULD PLAY. No one here is the least bit territorial about 'their' fandoms, and if you want to jump into someone else's pool and play with the toys, feel free!! We want everyone to feel like they're part of a community. Similarly, if you have a fandom that's been poking around your head for a while, but haven't written anything with it, now is the time to bust it out!!!

Now, all you need is the secrets...you can go to the gallery or you can see them here: LOTS of postcards under the cut )
